Reformer Masterclasses - Understanding Springs

Resistance, Assistance and the Art of Spring Selection

Spring selection is one of the most important and sometimes misunderstood aspects of Reformer teaching.

More resistance doesn't always mean a harder exercise, and lighter springs don't necessarily make movement easier.

In this practical Reformer Masterclass, we'll explore how spring tension influences movement, stability, muscular effort and control.

By experiencing different spring settings in your own body, you'll develop a deeper understanding of how resistance can assist, challenge or change the purpose of an exercise.

What we'll explore:

How spring tension changes the demands of an exercise

Resistance versus assistance

Why lighter springs can sometimes be more challenging

How spring choices influence stability and control

Adapting spring settings for different bodies and abilities

Using spring selection to achieve specific teaching objectives

Practical exploration of familiar Reformer exercises using different spring combinations

Develop greater confidence in making informed spring choices rather than simply following standard settings.

Every participant has their own Reformer, allowing plenty of opportunity
